KMP collaborates with Cedar Community for an afternoon of Senior Theater

Nearly two dozen people gathered at Cedar Lodge on an afternoon in March for Readers’ Theater. The group read the script for Our Town, the beloved play by Thornton Wilder. No preparation needed. The readers received their scripts and their roles as they arrived, and did a cold read of the play. They had a blast.

“It was great,” said Cedar Community participant Mary Miller, who loved the small-town story. “It’s like I was there.”

The group, led by Cedar Community’s music director Deanna Gibeau, included residents of Cedar Community, and some KMP regulars. KMP has been exploring new ways to support theater in the community, and has recently been meeting with Cedar Community to look for opportunities to collaborate. This was a fun one.

This is the second meeting of the Readers’ Theater group. In December, they read an abridged version of A Christmas Carol, and the story of The Christmas Truce. But, in fact, the history goes back even further. Prior to the pandemic, a group met for a reading of an original telling of the history of Cedar Community, written by a community resident.

There are tentative plans to meet for another performance of that story, and perhaps a sequel, to bring the story up-to-date. We’ll keep you posted.
