Coming this January is a unique opportunity to see two plays in one night at KMP!
We are again competing in the state American Association of Community Theater (AACT) competition. The event has rigorous performance guidelines: Plays may only be 60 minutes long and take only 10 minutes to set up and 10 minutes to strike the set.
We’ll be performing Under Control by Elinor Jones for our competition, and our KMP audiences get to see it on our stage first! In this dark comedy an uptight brother and sister join their free-spirited stepmother in Florida for the scattering of their father’s ashes, each determined, in their own way, to get it done right. Enjoy award-winning AACT Fest performers Jovon Serrano and Christy Miceli as they join Josh Scheibe in this Sally Schmeling-directed one-act performance.
This spring, KMP will take this show to the biennial state-wide competition. In 2022, KMP won at State to advance to Regionals, where a win took us to the National competition, where KMP actress Jovon Serrano was awarded best actor honors. We have our sights set on repeating that success with this year’s show, and the team is working hard to prepare. This year’s National AACT Fest will be held in Des Moines in June.
At intermission, the stage will shift to another AACT award-winner, Robb Bessey, in a one-man performance of Underneath the Lintel by Glen Berger. Directed by KMP’s artistic director Al Wallisch, this story follows a fastidious librarian as he chronicles his search around the world and across time for a mysterious reader who returned a book more than a century overdue.
The two short plays appear together in these performances and these intriguing and beautiful scripts bring something new to our KMP stage. We invite you to join us for the two great performances that come with a single ticket!
Tickets go on sale on Monday, December 9. Get more info and the link to purchase tickets on the Theater page.
