Last season we began some new programs at the Playhouse to support and spotlight Wisconsin playwrights. One of these programs is hosting table reads for new plays.
Writing a play is a huge creative undertaking and typically a solitary one. Finishing a draft is a major accomplishment, but the job isn’t done. A playwright needs to go back and edit the script to get it to its final form. One thing many find helpful at this stage of the process is to share the script with a table full of talented actors and writers who read the play aloud, so the playwright can hear the words spoken by the characters.
We’ve hosted a few of these developmental table reads for local playwrights. The most recent one was earlier this month. You may know Rob Sheehy from his memorable performances on the KMP stage, but you may not know that he is also a gifted writer. We were delighted that he shared one of his newest scripts with us, and we’re happy to help him on this step of his writing journey.
